Doug Allen - Founder & Principle Consultant
Doug has been working with personal computers since 1980. The first PC he worked with was a TRS-80 that used a cassette recorder as it's disk drive. The first computer he owned was a Xerox PC with an 8086 processor running at almost 5 MHz. The PC had no hard drive and booted the CP/M operating system from a dual external 5 1/4 inch floppy. From there to the Apple IIe and continuing through the PCs and servers of today.
Doug began programming in high school (early 80s) and has had experience with many facets of computing - web design, PC building & repair, network design, wireless network technologies, security, system administration, training and management. He entered the technical service industry professionally as a Field Engineer with Xerox Corporation in 1988. While with Xerox, Doug also ran a part-time PC building and repair business. Since that time Doug has held several prominent positions in the IT field. As the Southeastern Regional Systems Manager for a world-wide commercial real estate company, he was directly responsible for over 40 office buildings on the company's North American network and was selected for more project teams throughout the U.S. than any other regional level staff. Immediately prior to founding VBC, Doug was the Director of Information Technologies for a large east-coast computer network training provider. He has managed teams of IT professionals in both large and small projects and has trained other network engineers around the country. Doug went into business on his own in May of 2001.
In addition to professional experience, Doug has been tested and certified by major organizations in the computer industry - he is one of an extremely small number of people currently tested and certified in the relatively new field of wireless networking technologies. Doug has developed and written training courses to teach others these same skills. Just some of the industry certifications attained by Doug are shown below:
